As 2013 was coming to an end I wrote a list of goals to achieve before the calendar changed. One of the more ambitious goals on this list was to have one of my pieces featured in an exhibition. This was something I hoped to achieve, but felt I wouldn’t. I had nowhere near enough finished pieces to apply for a solo exhibition and no idea where to start looking for a gallery that would accept my work.
Then one morning, by chance, I saw a tweet that read “Calling all emerging artists”. I followed the link to find that the Brunswick Street Gallery had extended their submission deadline for their 40×40 2013 exhibition. I applied that day and after many late nights painting on my bed (I don’t even have a proper creative space), I submitted three drawings to the gallery. Just in time, I could cross off the most challenging goal on my list. It’s a small victory, but a victory nonetheless.
The three pieces I submitted are below, but the 40×40 exhibition ends tomorrow at 8pm. If you’d like to visit head over to 322 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy to see the amazing range of artwork.
